This is not a list of doctrines you must believe to be a member of His House. It’s possible to be a member of His House and hold different views on what we consider secondary doctrinal issues—issues that are not core to the Christian faith and do not pertain to salvation and the redemptive work of the Cross. However, elders of His House do agree to all of these doctrines and the preaching and teaching of His House will align with these stated beliefs.

Trinity

We believe in the one true God who exists in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  They are equal in deity, power, and glory and yet also have distinct roles, each functioning in harmony. These three exist in loving fellowship with each other. We believe that creation and redemption stemmed from the Godhead’s desire to extend this loving relationship to all of humanity. (Genesis 1; John 1:1-3; Matthew 28:19, Isaiah 45:5; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:5-6)

Word of God

We believe that the Bible is God’s revealed will to man. It is divinely inspired, without error, and perfect and trustworthy in every way. The Bible is the authority on what we are to believe and how we are to live. There is no other basis for absolute truth other than Holy Scripture. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 19:7-11; Matthew 5:17-19; Colossians 2:8; Hebrews 4:12-13)

Creation and Fall of Man

We believe God created everything we see by the Word of His mouth and the work of His hands. We affirm the creation account as it is revealed in the book of Genesis. Human beings were created in the image of God but stepped out of God’s perfect plan through willful disobedience. This sin brought physical and spiritual death, which is separation from God. After the fall of man, every person was born with a sin nature, enslaved to the power of Satan. No one can save themselves apart from faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1; 2:16-17; 3:6; Nehemiah 9:6; Psalm 51:5; 102:25; Romans 5:12-19;  3:10-23)

God the Father

We believe God the Father is the originator of all life. He is called the great “I AM” and is the source of all things both seen and unseen. Our immutable God is uncreated in nature and infinite in existence. He is Lord over heaven and earth and gives life and breath. In Him we live and move and have our being. He is all-knowing and all-loving, and yet He will one day judge the world in righteousness. (Acts 17:23-31; James 1:17; Psalm 139; Isaiah 40:28; Revelation 20:11-12)

God the Son

We believe Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Jewish Messiah, and Savior of the world. He preexisted with the Father and the Spirit before creation. All things have been created through Him and for Him. At the incarnation, Jesus was fully God and became fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, atoned for the sins of all mankind by dying on a cross, and physically resurrected after three days. He ascended to heaven where He intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father. Christ Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead and to physically reign on the earth. (Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1-18; Romans 8:34; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 1:7; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28)

God the Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead. He is the presence of Jesus on the earth, drawing unbelievers and convicting them of sin. At the point of salvation, the Spirit raises unbelievers to newness of life and becomes the indwelling presence of God in us, sealing us for the day of redemption. He continues the work of salvation through sanctification and empowers us through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. He confirms the word with signs and wonders and gives His Church spiritual gifts. (John 14:16-17, 14:26; 16:7-15; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7; Ephesians 4:30; 1 Peter 1:2)

The Gospel: Salvation/Sanctification/Glorification

We believe the Gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. It is the ongoing revelation of Jesus Christ in the hearts of believers. Through the shed blood of Christ, we can receive redemption and forgiveness of sin which formerly separated us from God. Salvation is a free gift to all and is received by grace through faith. This saving faith will produce repentance and confession of sins. At the moment of conversion, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we become a new creation in Christ with a desire to please Him and know Him. We also believe that divine healing was purchased in Jesus’s atoning sacrifice. Sanctification is the ongoing work of salvation which is the process of becoming like Jesus. Our salvation will be fully realized when Jesus returns and we see Him face to face, receiving our glorified bodies and becoming fully like Him. (Romans 1:16-17; Galatians 1:12; Hebrews 9:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Hebrews 10:14; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 John 3:2; 1 Peter 1:13; Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16)

Sacraments: Water Baptism/Communion

In scripture, there are two ordinances given by the Lord to His Church, water baptism and communion. Water baptism by full immersion is a necessary demonstration of salvation, although not a means of salvation. It is meant to be a public representation of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection manifested in the believer’s life.

Communion, also called the Lord’s supper, is a sacrament involving the bread and the cup: the bread — His body, which was broken for us, and the cup — His blood that was shed for us. When we take communion, it is a way for us to affirm the blood covenant we have with Christ and to continue our experience of the sacrificial work of the Cross. We’re commanded to take communion often until Christ’s return. We believe in an open table — all believers are welcome to participate. (Matthew 26:26-30; 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30; Hebrews 12:22-24)

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We believe that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift, promised by the Lord Jesus to all believers. It is subsequent to and distinct from salvation; there is one initial baptism, but there should be many fillings. The purpose of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is to empower the believer to be a witness of His Kingdom. We believe in the present-day operation of the gifts of the Spirit as well as speaking in tongues, which is also a manifestation of this baptism. (John 7:38-39; Acts 1:4-5; 2:4; 10:46; 19:6; 1 Corinthians 12 and 14)

Satan and the kingdom of Darkness

We believe there are two opposing kingdoms: the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light. The Kingdom of darkness is made up of Satan and other fallen angels (demons) who rebelled against God, thus becoming the enemy of God and humanity. As God’s enemy, Satan seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. He was the original tempter and deceiver in the Garden of Eden, and he continues to attempt to lure people away from God’s plans and purposes. Satan was defeated at the cross, and Jesus has given believers authority over all the power of the enemy. After Christ’s millennial reign, Satan will be eternally punished and cast into the lake of fire. (Isaiah 14:12-20; Luke 10:18-19; John 10:10; 2 Corinthians 11:14-15; Ephesians 2:2; 6:10-13; Colossians 1:13-14; Rev 20:10)

Eschatology

We believe in a literal second coming of Christ to physically reign over the nations, following the great tribulation and the rapture of the saints. Although the church will face hardship during the tribulation, they will overcome as they always have in times of persecution, by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony, loving not their lives even unto death. The 1,000-year millennial rule of Christ will bring about global peace as well as the full manifestation of salvation for the Church and national Israel. (Psalm 22:27-28; Matthew 24:4-44; Romans 11:25-32; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28; 50-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12; Revelation 7:9-14; 12:11)

Heaven and Hell

We believe that when God’s children leave their earthly bodies, their spirits go to be with the Lord. At the return of Jesus, after the last trumpet call, both believers who remain and those who have died will be raised to life and given glorified bodies to be forever unified with our Lord. When unbelievers die, their souls are sent to a literal hell, awaiting the final judgment when they will join Satan and his angels in the lake of fire, eternally separated from the presence of God. The final judgment will occur after Christ’s millennial reign. Once the judgment is complete, God will bring about a new heaven and a new earth, which will be the culmination of His redemptive plan. (Daniel 12:2; Matthew 25:46; 1 Corinthians 15:35-58; 2 Corinthians 5:6-10; 2 Thessalonians 1:5-10; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:1-22:15)

Church Leadership Structure

We are not currently a part of a specific denomination or church network. While we see the benefit of receiving wisdom from seasoned church leaders outside of His House, we believe that the Biblical model for church leadership is that Christ is the head and the church is functionally led by a plurality of Elders appointed from among the local congregation. While we do have a lead teaching elder/pastor, elders at His House share the responsibility of teaching and shepherding the congregation. We adhere to the Biblical requirements of Eldership listed in 1 Timothy and Titus. (1 Timothy 3:1-7; 5:17; Titus 1:5-9; Acts 14:23; Ephesians 5:23-25; 1 Peter 5:1-4)

Sanctity of Human Life

We believe in the sanctity of human life from conception to the grave, in that, every person is uniquely created in the image of God. We renounce the practice of abortion for any and all purposes. We believe that to justify abortion based on the circumstances surrounding conception or the reduced circumstances of the parents, is to exclude the hand of almighty God in redeeming the unborn human soul. We believe the Church is called to defend and protect human life at every stage. (Genesis 1:26-27; 9:5-6; Psalm139:13-16; 82:3-4: Deuteronomy 30:19-20; Jeremiah 1:5; Exodus 20:13; Exodus 21:22-25; Matthew 18:14)

Marriage and Sexuality

We believe that marriage is the union of one biological man and one biological women. The pattern for marriage was set at the creation of Adam and Eve. We believe in complimentary/different male and female roles as delineated in scripture, that the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, and yet there is a place for each to submit mutually to the other in love. We affirm that scripture prohibits all forms of sexual intimacy outside of marriage and that all sexual immorality is sinful. (Genesis 2:15-25; Matthew19:4-6; Romans 1:18-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 6:18; 7:2-5; Ephesians 5:23; Hebrews 13:4)
